Coastal Animal Shelter in Murrells Inlet has received at least 68 applications for three puppies that were found in a stormwater pipe near South Bay Street in Georgetown, shelter volunteer Karen Nierengarten said this morning.
The applications will be reviewed by the shelter's adoption committee before new homes are chosen for the puppies, Nierengarten said.
She said the shelter staff wants to be sure to the best of its ability that the dogs will go to good homes.
"It's a serious decision taking on an animal," Nierengarten said. "People need to sit back and realize they're taking on a big responsibility."

Nierengarten said the puppies are doing very well, eating, sleeping and "running amok in their little area."
