Tubing victim's funeral today

Funeral services will be held today for a Georgetown teen who died Saturday in a boat-related incident.

Services for Allison BrookeHowell, 18, will be at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 331 St. James St., Georgetown, according to her obituary.

Howell was injured as she and a friend were riding in an inner tube being pulled behind a boat on the Black River in western Georgetown County, said coroner Kenny Johnson. When they neared the Dunbar Road bridge over the river, the driver turned the boat around, but the inner tube swung into a piling, injuring both girls, Johnson said.

Howell suffered injuries to her head and body and died at Georgetown Memorial Hospital at 4:26 p.m., he said. The second girl suffered a leg fracture and should make a full recovery.

Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God, P.O. Box 1627, Georgetown, SC 29442.
