CCU plans hero’s welcome for baseball team

Coastal Carolina University’s Chanticleers are set to return home from the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., at 11 p.m. Thursday to the cheering celebration of fans at the General Aviation gate of Myrtle Beach International Airport.

The General Aviation Airport is located at 1250 Airdrome Avenue in the Market Common area of Myrtle Beach. Fans are encouraged to welcome the team there.

A welcome home motorcade and ceremony, initially scheduled for Thursday afternoon, is now set for Friday, according to a CCU news release. The Chanticleer motorcade will parade through downtown Conway at 1:30 p.m.

The team will continue on to CCU, arriving at approximately 2 p.m. at the main entrance of TD Sports Complex, located on West Chanticleer Drive. Fans will form a gauntlet to cheer on the team, starting at the Chauncey statue leading to the Springs Brooks Baseball Stadium.

The official welcome home ceremony will immediately follow at the stadium. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center.
