The last man seen with 44-year-old Garrey Sumter in February 2015 was the man who pleaded guilty Monday to his murder, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Edward Leon Morris, of Georgetown County, pleaded guilty to one count of murder in the shooting of Sumter, who was found in a car in the parking lot of Denny’s, located at 800 S. Kings Highway, in Myrtle Beach.
In a brief Myrtle Beach police report, a woman, who works at the restaurant, noticed a white 2014 Chevy Malibu in the parking lot with blood on the door and ground by the vehicle.
The woman called authorities and EMS was called for an unresponsive man.
According to arrest warrants, Morris was the last person with Sumter prior to his murder. Morris was arrested on an unrelated offense when police discovered evidence that matched evidence found at the crime scene, according to warrants.
