Weldon Boyd’s North Myrtle Beach restaurant, home searched by SLED. What we know

A North Myrtle Beach businessman’s restaurant and home were searched Monday by agents with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Agents searched Weldon Boyd’s restaurant, Buoys on the Boulevard, as well as his home.

It is unclear what the agents were searching for and why. A spokesperson with SLED said Tuesday morning that the agency didn’t “have any information to provide on this matter at this time.”

Boyd’s attorney, Kenneth Moss, confirmed by email that Boyd’s business and home were searched. Moss said that SLED officials asked to conduct the search and “Mr. Boyd fully and readily cooperated by providing keys and access codes to SLED in order that they could do their work,” Moss said.

Video posted online a little after 4 p.m. showed employees exiting the restaurant and walking into the parking lot as officers walked in and out of the building.

Boyd was one of two men involved in a deadly road rage shooting on Sept. 9, 2023, on Camp Swamp Road in the Longs area of Horry County.

Boyd and his friend, Kenneth “Bradley” Williams, shot and killed Scott Spivey, 33, of Tabor City, North Carolina, after a back and forth between the three men along S.C. 9. The confrontation eventually ended in the fatal shooting on Camp Swamp Road when Spivey stopped his vehicle to confront Boyd and Williams, who had been following him for several miles.

Both Boyd and Williams, have claimed self-defense in the shooting, but after a four-day hearing earlier this year in a civil case against the friends, Judge Eugene Griffith Jr. denied both Boyd and Williams immunity under the state’s Stand Your Ground law.

Neither man has been charged criminally in the shooting.

Williams was also denied immunity in the case and now both Boyd and Williams will have to face the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Spivey’s family in the shooting. The trial for the case is currently set for December.
