Myrtle Beach Fire crews are on the scene of a fire at Burky’s Grill.

The fire happened about 5:44 a.m. at 4001 N. Kings Highway, according to Myrtle Beach Fire Capt. Jon Evans.

Several fire trucks were still at the scene at 8 a.m. this morning. Evans said the fire was out at one point, but crews had to go to the roof to put out a fire in HVAC.

No one was injured in the fire, Evans said. Evans said the fire is under investigation and a cause is not yet known.

The building received severe damage.

Wayne Burkart, owner of Burky’s Grill, was at the scene Wednesday morning. Burkart said by phone that he was waiting to hear from the fire chief, but he believes it may have started in the kitchen.

“We haven’t been able to get inside,” Burkart said, “It’s very bad.”

Burkart has been operating the restaurant for 40 years. He said they plan to rebuild. “It’s just going to take more time,” he said.

Burky’s Grill, which boasts 1950s decor, opened in 2003. It was formerly G.D. Ritzy’s, which operated from from 1983 to 2000.

The restaurant serves burgers, hot dogs, french fries and soft-serve ice cream.

Police have several lanes of North Kings Highway blocked off in front of the restaurant. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
