Netflix airing eighth ‘Tiger King’ episode: ‘It’s eye-opening and hopefully funny’
An eighth episode in the “Tiger King” docuseries has begun airing on Netflix.
“The Tiger King and I — a Tiger King after show hosted by Joel McHale and featuring brand new interviews with John Reinke, Joshua Dial, John Finlay, Saff, Erik Cowie, Rick Kirkman, and Jeff and Lauren Lowe — will premiere April 12,” Netflix tweeted last week ahead of Sunday’s debut.
The first seven episodes primarily follow the story of Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic, a boisterous exotic animal exhibitor in Oklahoma who was sentenced to 22 years in jail earlier this year for attempting to hire someone to murder Carole Baskin, an outspoken animal rights activist who operates a big cat sanctuary near Tampa, Florida.
But the show also delves into the stories of several other exotic animal owners, including Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, who owns Myrtle Beach Safari in Socastee, also known as The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.).
Netflix’s Thursday tweet includes a video featuring McHale as he provides some further details about the eighth installment.
“It’s an after show hosted by me,” he says. “I talk to a lot of people involved in the project. . . . to see what’s happened in their lives since the release of the series. It’s eye-opening and hopefully funny. So watch ‘The Tiger King and I’ April 12 on Netflix.”
Neither Antle nor Myrtle Beach Safari were featured nor mentioned in the eighth installment. The facility recently had to temporarily close because of S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster’s orders amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Tiger King had more than 34 million views in the first 10 days it aired and is among Netflix’s all-time most-watched programming, according to Business Insider.
