Two workers injured at oceanfront construction site

A piece of steel bar fell 15 stories and injured two construction workers about 11 a.m. Thursday at Ocean Enclave, a new hotel on Ocean Boulevard, according to the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

First responders are on scene and two people are being transported to the hospital, said Lt. Jon Evans with MBFD.

Myrtle Beach Construction Services Director Chris Lee said the investigation of all construction-site accidents are handled through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

"All construction activities will be halted until OSHA has conducted and concluded its investigation," Lee said. "The International Building Code does not address safety on the job site itself, as that is addressed by OSHA regulations."
