Paving in Carolina Forest area
Paving will begin on Monday and continue throughout the week along Carolina Forest Boulevard at the Southgate/Walker’s Woods, Avalon and Summerlyn/Carolina Forest Recreation Center and Library intersections.
Due to projected cooler temperatures at night, paving operations will take place during daylight hours. Some lane closures will be required.
Horry County fall budget retreat
Horry Council Council members will participate in a fall budget retreat Friday morning immediately following a 9 a.m. special council meeting.
The meeting will be held in the council conference room at the Horry County Government and Justice Center in Conway.
Veterans Day observed
Americans will honor veterans on Tuesday. The day was established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919 as Armistice Day.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the Coastal Carolinas Association of REALTORS will host a legislative luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The event will feature a moderated panel discussion with local legislators. The chamber also will present its legislative priorities for 2015.

The college basketball season opens Friday with the majority of the nation’s teams in action.
Coastal Carolina’s men’s and women’s teams begin with a home doubleheader. The women host UNC Pembroke (5 p.m.) and the men follow against Trinity Baptist (7:30 p.m.).
The high school football playoffs begin for Class AAAA – the state’s highest classification – on Friday. Socastee, which will play at Stratford at 7:30 p.m., is the only area school from the class to qualify.
Meanwhile, all other classes will engage in second-round action.
