Emergency crews from Georgetown County and the U.S. Coast Guard rescued six people from a sinking boat near Murrells Inlet late Tuesday, according to authorities.
No one was injured, according to Capt. Chuck Petrella of Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Rescue.
Petrella said responders from the fire department, the Coast Guard and a company called Tow Boat US, went to assist the boat after receiving a report that a boat struck something and was taking on water.
He said that within about 15 minutes responders had reached the boat, which had been returning from the ocean and was near the entrance to the jetties when it was sinking. Petrella said the Coast Guard secured the boat at the scene. He said rescuers returned by about 9:30 p.m.
