Four area students were recognized by the South Strand Optimist Club on Thursday for their perseverance in difficult situations.
The students, who were selected from grades 10-12, are part of the Optimist Club’s program “Against All Odds.” The purpose of the program is to recognize students who through extremely difficult family situations have overcome disadvantages and excelled in academics and extracurricular activities.
The students are: Tyriq Grant, from Waccamaw High School; Tessa Taylor, from St. James High School; Jania Rashae Mary Lawrence Georgetown High School; and Kaya Rain Harris, from Waccamaw High School.
Sheriff Lane Cribb and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office sponsored this program.
