The week ahead for the Myrtle Beach area

Myrtle Beach Regional EDC

The executive committee of the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corp. is scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the second floor meeting room of the HTC Service Center on U.S. 501.

Among the items on the agenda are a report of the results of the EDC’s recent membership campaign and a discussion of a regional speculative building analysis.

Mustangs roll into Myrtle Beach

Mustang Week begins Tuesday in Myrtle Beach culminating with a cruise-in at Myrtle Beach mall on Saturday.

The week will kick off with a meet-and-greet event held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach. Other events scheduled this week include an autocross driving school on Tuesday, burnout contest and drag races.

A highlight of the week is the 10th annual car show at Myrtle Beach mall beginning at 11 a.m. Friday.

The cruise-in at the mall will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

45th anniversary of moon landing

Two astronauts were the first men to land on the moon 45 years ago as of Sunday.

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin launched a social media campaign last week to help commemorate the anniversary, asking people to share stories of where they were on July 20, 1969, on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag “#Apollo45.”

MLB All Star

All Star festivities for Major League Baseball will begin Monday with the two leagues facing off in the Home Run Derby at 7 p.m.

The Midsummer Classic will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Fox. The game will be played at Target Field in Minnesota and the winning league will earn home-field advantage in the World Series. The team with home-field advantage has won the last four championships.
