Brookgreen Gardens burns brightly in Myrtle Beach area holiday tradition

The nights are alive for the 13th year at Brookgreen Gardens.

The annual Nights of a Thousand Candles exhibit takes place Friday and Saturday and Dec. 20-22 at the Gardens on U.S. 17 between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island.

Visitors can stroll the gardens on those days from 3 to 10 p.m. and take in the statues, oaks and more adorned in more than 5,500 hand-lit candles and hundreds of thousands of lights. Daily lighting of the candles begins around 5:15 p.m.

“It takes about 30 minutes to light all the candles,” said Brookgreen Gardens Marketing Director Helen Benso. “We’ve gotten really good at it.”

Tickets are $16 for adults, $7 children ages 4-12, while 3 and younger are free. Discounts of $5 for adults and $2 for children are available for Brookgreen members.
