One teenager was killed and another injured in a crash late Thursday in Horry County.
A 16-year-old passenger, Kayla Marie Bennett of Little River, died when the 2004 Jeep Cherokee ran off the road and struck a utility pole, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday on Cherry Hill Road, about six miles south of Loris.
Bennett was thrown from the vehicle and died, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol Web site.
The driver, also 16, was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. She is in critical condition. Neither the driver nor Bennett were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
Bennett is the 54th traffic fatality on Horry County's roads this year. There were 62 traffic fatalities last year, 60 in 2005, and 73 in 2004.
