A lightning strike may be behind the start of an attic fire at a home in the Burgess community Thursday morning.
Horry County Fire Rescue crews were called out to the blaze on Eagle Creek Drive off Bay Road.
“We had a fire that damaged the attic of this residence,” said Battalion Chief Thomas Loeper, with HCFR. “A prelimenary investigation revealed that at approxiamately 4 o’clock this morning there was a lightning strike. The occupants checked the home at the time and didn’t see any signs of fire in the house.”
However, neighbors alerted them later that the home was on fire, Loeper said, and they made out to safety.
No one was injured in the blaze, officials said.
