A Little River couple is $4 million richer after cashing in a $4 million winning Mega Millions ticket Monday.
Stephen Jones Jr. said he checked his ticket before going to bed Friday, and then had his wife check it again. All five numbers matched, and he had played the Megaplier to increase the prize from $1 million to $4 million.
“We didn’t sleep after that,” Jones said.
Jones told lottery officials he was able to keep his composure over the weekend, but it began to really sink in as he drove to Columbia on Monday to claim his prize.
“We have wanted to start our own business for a while,” he said standing with his wife after presenting the winning ticket. “Now we can.”
The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions are about 1 in 18.5 million and the odds of getting a X4 are 1 in 5.
For selling the claimed ticket, the Circle K on U.S. 17 in Little River received a commission of $40,000.
