Horry County, Myrtle Beach area sees additional confirmed cases of coronavirus

The coronavirus outbreak continues to spread in Horry County with five more confirmed cases on Tuesday.

There are now 37 positive COVID-19 cases in the Myrtle Beach area, according to the latest numbers from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

In total, there are now 1,083 confirmed cases in South Carolina across 42 counties, with a total of 22 deaths, including three deaths reported in Horry County.

Health officials continue to stress the importance of handwashing and social distancing to help stop the spread of the disease. Area hotels and attractions have also closed to help slow the coronavirus’ spread.

DHEC projects the state will reach 2,657 cumulative cases by April 2 and 8,053 cases by May 2, though projected data is estimated and may change significantly due to various factors, the agency said.
