From beach bars to dive bars, there are many different atmospheres to choose from on the Grand Strand. But what are the most ideal bars to meet new people? Some bars have more to offer the average single in their twenties, so it’s important to know which ones deliver on atmosphere, location and the crowd. After exploring several bars on the Grand Strand, here are, in no particular order, the top five best bars for singles.
Located on Broadway Street near the intersection of 501, is The Tavrne. This hidden gem is a popular spot for locals and has a great, laid-back atmosphere. The food specials are made personally by the mother of the owner, and they offer a wide variety of drinks. The best part about The Tavrne has to be its welcoming crowd of locals. Along with the customers, the bartenders make you feel right at home. Even if you aren’t a local, you’ll feel like one when you’re there.

Next up is Bourbon Street Bar & Grille. Bourbon Street is high energy and often offers live music. It’s the kind of bar you can go to for a casual beer, or sophisticated cocktail. Its modern decor is welcoming and reminiscent of a bar you’d find in any big city. The energy of the young crowd is contagious, but doesn’t exile those who may be a little older. They have unique game options that aren’t your typical pool table and dart board, such as ping pong and a mini golf computer game. There’s definitely a lively late night atmosphere. On Tuesday they offer tacos for a dollar.
A little inland from the ocean, located in the very populated Carolina Forest area, is Murphy’s Law. Murphy’s attracts a diverse group of people, whether it’s one of the many Carolina Forest locals or students of Coastal Carolina University. It has a spacious bar and large game room with pool tables. It also offers an affordable late night menu and karaoke every Wednesday.
That brings us to Bumstead’s Pub, located on Mr. Joe White Avenue, right off of Kings Highway. It’s the perfect late night spot and a great place to meet local service industry workers. Bumstead’s offers tons to do including darts, pool, and an impressive outside space complete with tv’s and a fireplace. There are three large areas to hang out in so you never feel short of space in this cozy Irish pub.
Last but not least is Atlas Tap House, located right across the street from Bumstead’s Pub. Atlas has a lot to offer, including an outdoor patio complete with a stage, a view of the skywheel, live music, and two living room-style lounging areas. You’ll have trouble running out of stuff to do in this converted house that offers indoor and outdoor games. It’s the perfect place to have a relaxing drink in the lounge area, or hanging out by the fire pits outside and playing cornhole. Atlas is ideal for the craft beer and bourbon lover, and the bartenders are welcoming and personable. It’s perfect for those in need of a drink no matter what you’re in the mood to do.
