A bridge on U.S. 701 over the Pee Dee River will open on Wednesday, but not in time for the morning drive, according to a state highway official.
A crash on the bridge Monday morning resulted in the death of a truck driver and damage to the bridge on its southbound side. Officials immediately closed the bridge and have been redirecting traffic around that location since.
Shannon Welch, resident maintenance engineer for the S.C. Department of Transportation, said the bridge would be open Wednesday afternoon, but he couldn’t specify a time.
``We are confident it won’t be closed on Thursday,’’ he said.
