Horry County officials host a full-scale exercise this week simulating the impact of a major hurricane in the area, according to Lisa Bourcier, spokeswoman.
The exercise, called Operation Guard Alliance 2011, is set to begin today and ends Thursday. Agencies expected to participate include: Horry County Emergency Management, Horry County Police, Horry County Department of Airports, Horry County Assessor’s Office, Horry County ARES (ham radio), Lions Club, S.C. Emergency Management, and S.C. Army National Guard.
Portions of the exercise are scheduled to occur throughout Horry County including at the Myrtle Beach International Airport, the Conway-Horry County Airport and the M.L. Brown Public Safety Building in Conway.
The South Carolina Army National Guard will have several helicopters participating in this exercise and resident can expect to see activity from them on today and Thursday in and around the Myrtle Beach International Airport.
