West Virginia man faces robbery charges in Myrtle Beach

A 20-year-old Charleston, W.Va., man was charged with two counts of robbery in connection with two separate incidents that occurred in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, according to police records.

Robert Lee McCord was charged with armed robbery, strong armed robbery and public intoxication when police arrested him in the area of Withers Alley and Mr. Joe White Boulevard, according to records.

Police were called at 3:45 a.m. to the Scotchman convenience store located at 501 Third Ave. S., for an armed robbery. The employees told police they were robbed by a man wearing a stocking mask with holes for eyes cut out, according to the report. The employees said the man had his hand under his shirt like he had a gun.

The man took cash from the store and ran out of the business.

Police arrested McCord about 6:30 a.m. after officers were called to 1101 N. Kings Highway where a man said someone attempted to rob the Circle K store. A witness identified McCord as the man who had been in the store.

The witness told police he saw McCord in the parking lot and then again as he walked into the store wearing a mask, according to the report. The man said he saw McCord run out of the store and down the street after the incident.
