Conway man indicted in connection with rape of woman behind grocery store

A Conway man was indicted on a charge he sexually assaulted a woman near a Hill Street grocery store, according to records.

Curtis Blake, 43, was indicted on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct by an Horry County grand jury, according to indictments released Tuesday.

Blake is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $25,000 bond for the sexual assault charge, and $10,455 bond for charges of failure to appear and second-offense manufacture or possession of a controlled substance.

Blake has been jailed since he turned himself into Conway police on Dec. 1 to face the charge.

On the days before Thanksgiving, police responded to Smith's Grocery on Hill Street when they received a call about a partially clothed woman. Officers learned that the woman had been sexually assaulted in the woods behind the store.
