Horry County firefighters are battling a brush fire along U.S. 701 South outside of Conway and a portion of the road will be closed, according to officials.
The fire was reported at 11:42 a.m. today in a wooded area along U.S. 701 South near Shelley Farm road in the Bucksville community, according to Leslie Yancey, public information officer with Horry County Fire Rescue.
The fast moving grass fire had consumed about three acres in the area and because of its proximity to the road, police were closing that portion until the blaze is under control, Yancey said. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze to keep it from jumping Shelley Farm Road and spreading.
Motorists should seek an alternative route in that area and Horry County police and troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol are at the scene directing traffic.

No structures have been threatened by the blaze and five fire units are at the scene, Yancey said. S.C. Forestry Commission officials were notified of the blaze.
The blaze was reported to have started when a tire came off a vehicle, which caused sparks that ignited grass on the side of the road, Yancey said.
More details will be posted as they become available.
