An air handler at Conway Middle School caught fire early Monday and caused some minor damage, according to authorities.
Firefighters were called about 10 a.m. today to the school located at 1104 Elm St., and found an air handler on the roof above the cafeteria with a small fire inside it, Conway Fire Rescue Capt. Jeremy Carter said.
Firefighters contained the fire to the air handler and are investigating the incident.
All students, faculty and staff at the school were safely evacuated, said Teal Britton, Horry County Schools spokeswoman. No one was injured and they will remain outside the school until it is deemed safe to return inside.
