After about three days of deliberations, an Horry County jury found a Conway woman guilty of murder in the 2008 shooting of a 29-year-old woman, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Brittany Alexis Johnson, 19, was convicted of murder Friday and Circuit Court Judge Edward Cottingham sentenced her to 30 years in prison, according to authorities. The trial for Johnson began Monday and took two days before jurors began deliberating the case.
Monica Burroughs, 29, of Conway, was shot to death June 24, 2008, outside her home on Bayside Avenue in the Huckabee Heights housing project, according to authorities. Burroughs, the mother of four, was shot in the chest and died 40 minutes later at a hospital.
Johnson fled the scene after the shooting and she was arrested July 2, 2008, in Hartsville by the U.S. Marshals' Fugitive Task Force.

Johnson also faces charges of assault on a correctional facility employee and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, stemming from two incidents, one on Nov. 8, 2008, in which a correctional officer was assaulted, and another on May 10, 2010, when another woman in the jail was beaten with a plastic food tray, according to Horry County grand jury indictments.
