Seven people indicted in connection with fatal Horry County shooting

Seven people were indicted by an Horry County grand jury on charges related to the Aug. 21 fatal shooting of a man in Socastee, according to court records.

George Everett Gray and Alex Lorenzo Robinson, both 28 of Conway, were each indicted on a charge of murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Sylvester Smart, records showed. Robinson also was indicted on a charge of first-degree burglary.

Smart died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after he was shot in his upper body about 2:10 a.m. Aug. 21 on Strand Drive in the Strand Village mobile home park, police said. A motive in the shooting has not been released by Horry County police.

Horry County police have arrested 14 people on charges in connection with Smart’s death.

In indictments released this week, the grand jury indicted the following people on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder: Dalton Wade Morrow, 19; Alexandrea Nichole Jackson, 26; Savannah Michele Griffin, 19; and Russell Dale Griffin, 20, all of Myrtle Beach.

Maura Rhea Bomar, 22, who was arrested Aug. 23 on a charge of accessory after the fact of murder in the death, was indicted on a charge of accessory after the fact of first-degree burglary, records show.

Horry County Police also filed murder charges against Stanton William Squires, 19, of Aynor, but he was not listed in indictments released this week.

Robinson was the first person arrested in the death, and during the investigation detectives learned that other people were on the scene at the time and stole weapons and drugs right after the shooting, police said.

In addition to Bomar, Michael David Walling, 32, of Galivants Ferry, was arrested Aug. 24 and charged with accessory after the fact of a felony, which in this case was first-degree burglary.

The investigation then led detectives to an address on Laurelwoods Drive in the Burgess community of Horry County, where they searched for some of the items reported stolen during the shooting. On Aug. 24, investigators found about 95 grams of cocaine, 135 Ecstasy pills and two firearms, neither of which was the murder weapon.

From that search, Horry County police arrested Antoine Lamont Lance, 31, and Michael Rogers, 23, both of Pawleys Island. Ashley Janay Pearl, 19, and Shana Renea Green, 26, both of Myrtle Beach, were arrested and later charged with trafficking cocaine, MDMA or Ecstasy.
