A Myrtle Beach High School student accidentally shot his classmate while they were skipping school Friday morning, said Lt. Doug Furlong of Myrtle Beach police.
The student was playing with a handgun when it went off accidentally and struck the other student in the shoulder and the ear, Furlong said. Police were called at 11:40 a.m. Friday to respond to the incident at Sandy Gate Village building No. 1 located at 1011 Osceola Street in Myrtle Beach, he said.
The boy who was shot was taken for treatment by Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, according to authorities. His condition is not known.

Police did not release further information about the shooter because he is underage. The shooter has been charged with minor in possession of a handgun and other charges are being considered, Furlong said.
Two other students, also skipping, were present during the incident, Furlong said.
Sharee Chestnut, a resident of the apartment complex, said she "heard a loud noise" and saw a man holding his shoulder.
"I'm trying to figure out what happened," Chestnut said. "We have to live here and there are too many small kids around here for something like this to happen. It just doesn't make sense to me."
More details will be posted as they are received.
