A North Brunswick High School band teacher was arrested during the weekend for sending inappropriate text messages to a student, according to a release from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
Mark Riel, 37, of Leland, N.C., was charged with indecent liberties with a minor on Saturday, according to Sgt. April Stanley with the sheriff’s office.
The charge stemmed from messages sent to the student that contained sexual content, police said. School officials filed a report against Riel on Wednesday.
Riel was booked into the Brunswick County Detention Facility on Saturday and given a $25,000 secured bond.
