Police learn identity of man found shot, killed in Horry County

Horry County authorities released the identity of a man who was found fatally shot in the Green Sea community on Sunday.

Joseph D. Williamson, 30, of Columbus County, N.C. was found about 8:30 a.m. Sunday along Norton Road.

Police released photos of tattoos the victim has on both arms between his shoulders and elbows, both legs between his knees and feet, on both hands near his thumbs, and on his upper back. The man was found by a farmer driving on Norton Road, police said.

An autopsy performed Sunday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center showed the victim was shot at least one time "to a vital area causing the trauma," Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said.

Fowler would not say how many times the victim was shot or where he was wounded. He also would not comment on whether there were signs of a struggle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Horry County Police at 915-5350 or, to remain anonymous, 915-8477.
