A 17-year-old North Myrtle Beach high school student was charged with having a knife in her purse after school officials found it when she went through a metal detector, according to an Horry County police report.
The girl was charged with carrying a weapon on school property after school officials found the knife in her purse when she went through a metal detector Thursday morning, police said.
The girl told police the knife belongs to her father, who had put it in her purse, and she forgot it was there, according to the report. School officials suspended her.
The report did not provide a description of the knife other than that it was silver.
