A 28-year-old Myrtle Beach man faces charges in connection with a vehicle crash in which a 48-year-old woman died, according to authorities.
Bobby Burrell, 28, is charged with first-offense driving under suspension not suspended for driving under the influence and felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury, according to records at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Burrell was booked into the center at 2:52 a.m. Monday.
Burrell was driving a 1993 Honda car that disregarded a stop sign at the end of Peachtree Landing and ran into the Intracoastal Water about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol. The road is located off S.C. 544 in Socastee.
An autopsy was performed Monday morning on Kelly Moody, 48, and preliminary results showed her cause of death was drowning, said Horry County Coroner Tony Hendrick.
Burrell was able to escape from the vehicle when it went into the water, but Moody did not, Collins said.
An investigation into the crash continues.
