A Georgetown County sixth grade math teacher was killed in a vehicle crash during the weekend in Berkeley County, according to authorities.
Alison Harrigan, 29, of Huger, died at the scene of the crash, which was reported about 6 p.m. Sunday on State Road 598, also known as United Drive, according to officials.
Harrigan had taught at Rosemary Middle School for two years and also served as the coach for the girls cross country team at Andrews High School, said Ray White, Georgetown County Schools public information officer.
Grief counselors are at the schools to assist students and teachers with Harrigan’s death, White said.
Harrigan was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt east on United Drive when she crossed the center line, over corrected and ran off the right side of the road, said Cpl. Paul Brouthers with the S.C. Highway Patrol. The vehicle overturned and Harrigan was ejected from it and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, he said.
