Troopers release type of vehicle sought in Sunday's fatal hit-and-run

Troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol said Monday a Chevrolet Tahoe, Avalanche or full size pickup truck was involved in a hit-and-run that killed a 36-year-old Conway woman during the weekend, Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

The vehicle, which was manufactured between 2005 to 2007, will have damage to its front left side including the headlight, grill and radiator, Collins said. The color of the vehicle is not known.

Toni Montondo, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson said.

Montondo had crashed her 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe into a tree around 2 a.m. Sunday after disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 701 and Exodus Drive, Collins said. She was standing near her vehicle when the other vehicle struck and killed her.

That vehicle left the scene before police arrived, Collins said. Anyone with information about that vehicle can call the S.C. Highway Patrol at 843-661-4700 or *HP, Collins said.

The incident occurred in front of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church in the Yauhannah community, Johnson said.

The highway patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
