Florida woman returned to Horry County to face charges in fatal vehicle crash

A 39-year-old Florida woman has been charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in August 2009, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C Highway Patrol.

Kimberly Kelley Hilburn, 39, of Winter Haven, Fla., was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Wednesday after she was arrested in Florida on charges of felony DUI resulting in death, two counts of felony DUI with great bodily injury, driving under suspension and forgery less than $5,000, according to jail records. She is being held without bond.

Hilburn was arrested out of state this week and extradited to Horry County, Collins said.

The charges stem from Aug. 1, 2009, when a 60-year-old Nichols woman was killed in a vehicle crash in the Finklea community of Horry County, Collins said. Hilburn crossed left of the center-line while driving a 1995 Chevrolet truck and struck a 1998 Ford sport utility vehicle driven by Glendora Faye George.

George was driving south on S.C. 917 north of Loris when the crash occurred at 9:37 p.m. Aug. 1, 2009, police said. Five other people in the vehicle with George were taken to area hospitals.

Hilburn was also injured and was taken by helicopter to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment and then she left the state.

George, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt-force traumas.
