Myrtle Beach police are investigating a report that a 5-year-old boy was hit with a wooden paddle, according to a police report.
The boy’s 26-year-old mother told police that on Thursday the boy came home with a bad report for misbehaving at school and while she and the boy’s guardian, a 30-year-old man, questioned him the boy started to scream at his mother, police said.
The mother said the man hit the boy once on the butt with the paddle to discipline him, according to the report. The mother said she and the man were trying to get the boy’s attention and that they would never hurt their children.
The man told police he did hit the boy with the paddle after he started to scream at his mother and the incident did not leave a mark on the boy, according to the report. Police photographed the paddle and forwarded the information to the state Department of Social Services for investigation.
