Where the club is at address is crucial to hitting an effective pitch shot. Many golfers set their hands in front of the golf ball at address. This may be a first-rate position for chipping, but it destroys your chances of hitting a quality pitch shot and actually a good full shot. When hitting a pitch shot you want to use the bounce of the sand wedge. This is what gives you the spin and loft on the ball. So at address set the club where a line drawn up the shaft would bisect your left eye. From your vantage point it may seem that your hands are behind the ball, but check it in a mirror: You may be surprised to see it in a perfect position.
