Conway police are searching for a man who tried to cash a counterfeit check at a grocery store, according to a news release.
Police were called Aug. 23 to the Bi-Lo at 901 Church St., for the incident, said Catina Hipp, spokeswoman. The store manager told officers that the day before someone called the store and said they were with SC Global and were holding an event at Barefoot Landing and would need 20 Visa gift cards each valued at $100.
Later that day a man came into the store with a check from Sun Trust Bank and tried to purchase the gift cards, Hipp said. But the manager on duty told him to return the next day to make the purchase.
Conway police want anyone with information about the incident to call the department at 248-1790.
