Conway man charged with assault following dispute over tile

A 52-year-old Conway man was charged with third-degree assault and battery after a 53-year-old man told police he was punched in the face, according to a police report.

George Elliott Watson Jr., 52, was arrested after officers were called at 8 a.m. Monday to 501 Temple St., for the incident, police said. Watson is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Bail was set at $1,100 on the charge, but he also has a failure to appear warrant pending.

The victim told police Watson had asked about some tile and when he told him he didn’t have any to give him, Watson punched him in the face, according to the report. When police confronted Watson he said he punched the man.

The man had a bloody nose and refused treatment by EMS.
