Man charged in connection with hit-and-run of teen

An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a teen in Georgetown County, said Cpl. Paul Brouthers with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Thomas Gallagher of Pawleys Island turned himself in today to state troopers investigating the collision from Saturday night on Litchfield Road, Brouthers said. Gallagher has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of a collision with personal injury.

The crash is still under investigation.

Earlier today police were looking for a white in color Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable that they believed was involved in the hit-and-run.

A 16-year-old boy was walking with other people about 11 p.m. Saturday along Litchfield Road when he was hit by the vehicle, which was made between the years of 2001 and 2007 and missing a right side mirror with damage in that area, Brouthers said earlier today.

The teen was taken to Georgetown Memorial Hospital and transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The teen’s condition was not available Monday.
