Suspect arrested in fatal Myrtle Beach area shooting

Horry County Police have a suspect in custody in the Saturday shooting at a mobile home park in the Socastee community that killed a man.

Alex Lorenzo Robinson, 28, who lives in the Conway section of Horry County has been arrested on murder charges, according to Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler.

Robinson was arrested following the investigation into the shooting that killed Sylvester Smart Jr., 28, of Myrtle Beach.

Robinson is awaiting trial on drug trafficking and possession charges from a September 2008 arrest, according to the 15th Judicial Circuit.

The Horry County Police Department was called to the 5300 block of Strand Drive in the Strand Village mobile home park at 2:09 a.m., said Horry County Coroner Robert Edge Jr. Upon arrival, the officers found Smart with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Less than an hour later, he was pronounced dead, Edge said.

An autopsy was conducted Saturday afternoon, but Edge said that while he could confirm that the gunshot wound killed Smart, he could not release any other details.

Horry County Police continue to investigate the shooting and additional arrests are possible, according to Kegler.
