Myrtle Beach police arrest man for assaulting girlfriend

A Murrells Inlet man was charged with choking his girlfriend inside a Myrtle Beach motel room after the couple argued, according to a police report.

John Samuel Seals, 32, was charged with first-degree assault and battery, kidnapping, possession of marijuana and possession of cocaine, police said. Seals is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $30,000 bond.

A 22-year-old Myrtle Beach woman told police she came home from work and went to a room at Ocean West Motel at 204 N. Kings Highway where Seals was staying, police said. The couple had been dating for about two weeks.

The woman said about 6:15 a.m. Sunday a woman called Seals’ cell phone and she got upset, according to the report. The woman said they argued and Seals threw her on the bed, choked her and threatened to kill her.

The woman said she crawled out of the room and sought help from people outside the motel, according to the report. Witnesses told police they saw Seals run from the room and threatened to kill the woman with a gun.

Police arrested Seals about 7:45 a.m. Sunday along Second Avenue North, according to the report. The woman was treated by EMS for a cut to her neck.
