A 34-year-old Myrtle Beach man was charged with assaulting another man after that man told police the suspect attacked him in his apartment, according to a police report.
Harold Dean Smith, 34, was charged with simple assault and battery and public intoxication after officers were called at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to an apartment at 6704 Bryant St., police said.
The 35-year-old man told police he was sleeping on his couch when Smith came in through an unlocked door and threatened him, according to the report. The man said Smith charged at him and started swinging his fists at him.
The man said Smith punched him in the face and then tackled him, which caused a hole in the wall, according to the report. The man said he hit Smith to get away from him.

Police said Smith was bleeding from the nose and cut to his forehead and was disorderly when officers arrived.
