A 70-year-old Durham, N.C., woman was charged with simple assault after police say she slapped a 58-year-old woman during a dispute about the actions and discipline of a child, according to a police report.
Marilyn Riley Tilley was charged after police were called about 10 a.m. Monday to the Holiday Inn Express at 1290 Oleander Lane, police said.
The younger woman from Timberlake, N.C., told police she was eating breakfast in the dining area of the hotel and Tilley was trying to make her grandson eat a muffin, but he said he was full, according to the report. The woman said Tilley insisted the boy had to eat and she told the boy to come sit by her.
The women argued about the boy and the woman said Tilley slapped her in the face and she told hotel staff to call police, according to the report. Tilley told police she slapped the woman because she was tied of the actions of the child and the woman not disciplining him.
