Myrtle Beach food vendor chased, captured suspected theft

A food cart worker at Broadway at the Beach chased a 16-year-old boy to an area along 21st Avenue North and held him there until police arrived because the boy took a money bag from the cart, according to a police report.

The 33-year-old man told police the boy and his friend were talking to him about a job when the boy pushed the food cart in front of the man and grabbed the money bag and ran away, police said.

The man said he chased the boy through the parking lot near Imax Discovery Theater and across an open field before he tackled him in a grassy area behind BB&T Coastal Field at 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the report. A witness called police, but authorities did not locate the money bag.

The teen was released to the custody of his cousin and will face a charge of petty larceny.
