Conway police arrest trio in purse snatching at Wal-Mart

Conway police arrested three people on charges they snatched a woman’s purse in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, according to Catina Hipp, police spokeswoman.

Darryl McKenith, 21, of Aynor, Bernadette Baker, 31, of Conway and Janella Johnson, 18, of Conway, were charged in connection with the incident that occurred Thursday.

The trip appeared Friday for bond hearings.

Conway Judge Jane Mackey set McKenith’s bond at $15,000 for strong-armed robbery and $5,000 for criminal conspiracy; while Baker and Johnson each received a $5,000 bond on the charge of criminal conspiracy.

Police were called about 5 p.m. to the store after a witness saw the event and followed the suspect vehicle, Hipp said. Police stopped the vehicle and McKenith ran from the vehicle after a short foot chase.

Officers said McKenith and the women were driving through the parking lot when he stopped the vehicle and took a woman’s purse from her, Hipp said. The woman struggled with him over the purse and suffered minor injuries.
