A taxi cab driver drove a homeless woman to the Myrtle Beach Police Department after he learned the woman could not pay the fare, according to a police report.
The 28-year-old man told police he picked up Earlene Hicks, 44, at a gas station in the area of 59th Avenue north along with two other people, police said. The driver told police when the other two people got out he told the woman she would have to pay her part and she agreed.
The driver said he drove the woman in circles because she kept changing the address where she wanted to go, according to the report. The man said he stopped the cab and asked her to pay the $28.80 fare, but she refused to get out.
The woman told him she didn’t have money to pay the fare and the driver called police. When officers spoke to Hicks in the police department parking lot she said she would pay the driver the next day.
