1-year-old Loris boy killed in crash on S.C. 9 is identified

A 1-year-old Loris boy killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, has been identified as Deland Doctor, according to the Horry County coroner's office.

The boy died after the 1995 Cadillac he was riding in driven by a 25-year-old Loris woman tried to cross the southbound lane of S.C 9 and pulled out in front of a 2003 Buick, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins. The crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday about 3 miles east of Loris.

Deland died at 8:44 p.m., according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard, who said autopsy results are pending.

Police said the Cadillac overturned in the crash and its driver was taken to Loris Community Hospital, Collins said.

Deland died while being transported to a the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, Willard said. She said on the way to the Charleston hospital the child's condition worsened, so emergency workers stopped at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

No charges have been filed, but the S.C. Highway Patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
