Dispute at Myrtle Beach hotel swimming pool ends with two people arrested

A Myrtle Beach woman and North Carolina man were charged with simple assault and battery after they argued and shoved each other at a hotel pool along Ocean Boulevard, according to a police report.

Terri P. Motes, 54, of Myrtle Beach, and Rick Powers, 42, of Greensboro, N.C., were each charged after police were called Sunday evening to Monterey Bay Suites at 6804 N. Ocean Blvd., police said.

Motes told police she approached the pool steps, but Powers blocked them and did not move when she said “excuse me,” according to the report. She said Powers used vulgar language toward her before he grabbed her and pushed her into the water.

Powers told police he was sitting in the pool when he heard someone behind him say “excuse me” and when he stood up Motes called him names and pushed him in the face with her hand knocking him into the water.

Witnesses told police they saw the man and woman argue, but did not know there was a problem until hotel security arrived.
