Man charged with assaulting woman outside Myrtle Beach Police Department

A Myrtle Beach man was arrested after an officer outside the police department saw him assault a woman, according to a police report.

Kardonis Vernon Jackson, 47, was charged with simple assault after an officer was outside the police department at 2:30 a.m. Monday and saw a man hit a woman and start dragging her along the sidewalk, police said.

The 49-year-old woman told police she is homeless and Jackson offered to let her stay at his Carver Street house so they were walking there from Ocean Boulevard, according to the report. The woman said Jackson asked her for a pipe to smoke drugs and when she said no he got upset.

The woman said she was going to the water fountain at the police department to get some water as they walked by and he got violent with her, according to the report. EMS treated the woman at the scene for cuts to her mouth.
