Myrtle Beach man charged with robbing Virginia teen

A Myrtle Beach man remains jailed after two Virginia teens told police he robbed them of cash inside an Ocean Boulevard motel room, according to a police report.

Sceneca Devon Benning, 32, was charged with public intoxication, possession of ice, crank or crack cocaine and strong armed robbery following the incident at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Boardwalk Beach motel at 2300 N. Ocean Blvd., police said.

Benning is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $15,000 bond.

A 19-year-old woman from Roanoke, Va., told police she and her 18-year-old friend from Fincastle, Va., met Benning and another man while walking along Ocean Boulevard about 1:30 a.m., according to the report. The women invited the men back to their hotel room and the woman said she went to the balcony to smoke when the incident occurred.

The woman said Benning screamed at her friend, threatened to harm her and took the woman’s cash, according to the report. The woman said Benning tried to hit the other man, who left the room and she didn’t see him again.

The woman called police and when they arrived Benning got upset and threatened her, according to the report. Benning ran out of the room, but an officer stopped him. Police found the woman’s cash and driver’s license in Benning’s possession along with a note he forced her to write saying she gave him the money.
